AGRIBERRY FARM STORY
THE BEGINNING OF OUR JOURNEY
The Journey began as a dream over a decade ago, and has now blossomed into something tangible — AgriBerry Team SRL, proudly Dâmbovița County’s first modern, sustainable, and successful blueberry plantation. Founded by Cristian Radu-Saracu, a Bucharest native with deep roots in Cândești, our story is one of perseverance, innovation, and respect for nature.
FIRST HARVEST
After planting in 2013, first crop came 3 years later, in 2016, between June and August. A modest amount that first year, but with the correct and consistent pruning techniques, regular soil mulching and watering, the bushes got to use their energy to become well-established and resulting in healthy, significant, beautiful crops. Expansion and diversification
EXPANTION & DIVERSIFICATION
As managing the blueberry farm from seed to crop, from contract to actual transport and sales, was well under control it became a necessity not only to expand the current farm with more bluberry plants, but also to diversify it with other fruits so as to covering the whole harvesting season. After a decade of good management, land was aquired and planted with various species of blueberries, but also apple and flat peach trees which resulted in a continued successful local story.
FREEZING STORAGE
The right moment for harvesting blueberries is determined when they turn blue, are almost ripe, and come off easily when pulled from the stem. Their quality quickly decreases after harvest so blueberries meant for the fresh market are harvested manually, because of their sensitivity. Damage can quickly lead to mold growth so maintaining a consistent cold chain from the farm to the retail point is essential. This is done in a controlled temperature room at the farm, with a high relative humidity (around 90-95%).
A VERY SUCCESSFUL COMPANY
Persistent over the years, Agriberry has built a strong reputation locally and regionally thanks to the greatly valued fruit, serious contracting conditions and highly appreciated networking experience. The aim was not only to be economically successful but also to consolidate current partnerships and build new ones, initiate local fruit cooperatives, and get internationalised. At present, Agriberry team is interested in building trade relations with foreign counterparts in the field of agriculture enabling the exchange of know-how, acquiring equipment and planting material, and finally trade directly with foreign agribusiness companies.
